The Truth About the Wireless Tax Fairness Act

Leading our efforts to get the Wireless Tax Fairness Act passed into law is Bob Bolster. Here’s the latest from Bob on who is supporting the bill as well as who will benefit from the bill (hint, it’s all wireless customers). On November 1st the House of Representatives passed by voice vote, H.R. 1002, the [...]

CTIA Statement on Supercommittee

“The wireless industry’s need for additional spectrum is well documented. If the supercommittee process doesn’t provide a path to addressing our need for more spectrum, then there are other vehicles available that will ensure our members can access unused or underutilized spectrum and meet consumers’ demand for wireless broadband services. We look forward to working [...]

CTIA Carrier Officers Ask Joint Select Committee to Authorize Incentive Auctions and Repurpose Federal Spectrum

Earlier this month, four members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction wrote to the President expressing their support for voluntary incentive auctions but noting that incentive auctions alone are unlikely to be sufficient to address the well-documented demand for commercial spectrum. For that reason, Representatives Upton and Becerra and Senators Kerry and Toomey [...]

CTIA, NAB, SIA, NRB and PCIA Say No New Taxes on Spectrum Licensees

Today, CTIA’s President and CEO Steve Largent, along with NAB’s President and CEO Gordon Smith, Satellite Industry Association’s President Patricia Cooper, National Religious Broadcasters’ President and CEO Dr. Frank Wright and PCIA-The Wireless Infrastructure Foundation’s President and CEO Michael T. N. Fitch, sent a letter to the members of the supercommittee to ask them to [...]

CTIA Statement on Proposed 4G Disclosure Legislation

After Senators Blumenthal, Klobuchar and Franken introduced 4G disclosure legislation, I released the following statement: “As we have said before, this bill proposes to add an additional layer of regulation to a new and exciting set of services, while ignoring the fact that wireless is an inherently complex and dynamic environment in which network speeds [...]

CTIA-The Wireless Association Response to NAB’s Spectrum Letter

In response to the NAB’s spectrum letter to members of Congress, I issued the following statement: “If this is how the NAB is showing their support for voluntary incentive auctions, then I would be fascinated to see how they’d respond if they opposed the idea. Frankly, I would imagine their messaging would look and sound [...]

CTIA-The Wireless Association Statement on the Proposed Bill by U.S. Senators Blumenthal, Whitehouse and Franken

In response to the bill proposed by U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal, Al Franken and Sheldon Whitehouse that would attempt to overturn a 2011 U.S. Supreme Court decision that said binding arbitration clauses in mobile service contracts was lawful, I issued the following statement: “The proposed legislation is a misguided effort to overturn a well-reasoned U.S. [...]

NAB Opposes FM Chipset Mandate

As Chris said yesterday, FM-capable phones are available for the consumers who want them. The market is responding, and will continue to respond, to consumer demand, and thus there is no reason for a mandate in this area. Our opposition to an FM chipset mandate has long been echoed by groups like TIA, CEA, ITI, [...]
