Wireless Industry Unites to Call for Action on Key Consumer Tax Issues

Today, CTIA President and CEO Steve Largent and the CEOs of seven of America’s largest wireless companies joined to write House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte to urge prompt action to extend the Internet Tax Freedom Act’s moratorium on state and local taxation of Internet accessPDF.

Originally enacted in 1998, ITFA has been extended several times but is due to expire on November 1, 2014 unless Congress takes action. The letter also calls for approval of the Wireless Tax Fairness Act and the Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act.

As is the case with an extension of ITFA, action on these measures is critical to providing fair and rational tax policies for America’s broadband economy.
