App Creates Virtual Escort Home: WOW Wireless Lifesaver January 2013

The students at the University of Maryland in College Park are safer on campus these days thanks to Dr. Ashok Agrawala. He describes a virtual campus safety app he created called “Escort-M” that transmits real-time audio, video and location information from a UMD user’s wireless device to public safety personnel at the university’s Security Operations Center. In essence, it provides students or faculty walking late at night with a virtual personal security guard.

There's a smartphone video service with taggable and sharable video database in use now that does the functions described here.

It's called VACS, by Global Device Management, and is used by medical professionals, but could easily be applied to campus-wide or metropolitan safety services.
