This morning, the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade will have a hearing on “Where the Jobs Are: There’s an App for That.” To highlight just how important the app economy is to our country, here are some statistics
:
While the hearing is focused solely on apps, I want to highlight the indisputable fact that the U.S. wireless industry is a vital component of the U.S. economy.
From April 2007-June 2011, total private sector jobs fell by 5.3 million, but in the same time period, the U.S. wireless industry added almost 1.6 million new jobs [Source
]
When you add the fact that we’re the only industry who is ASKING (some might even say begging) the federal government to allow us to spend billions of dollars for a finite resource (spectrum) so we can then continue to invest even more money in infrastructure, jobs and innovation, the wireless industry is an extremely important factor in our nation’s economic recovery. Regardless of your political affiliation, this is something everyone can and should support.
