Following the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s markup of the Digital Goods and Services Tax Fairness Act of 2011 (H.R. 1860), which would create a national framework to prevent state and local governments from imposing multiple and discriminatory taxation on downloaded digital goods and services (e.g. e-books, music, apps, etc.), I issued the following statement:
“Today, the House Judiciary Committee took an important step to bring some clarity and consistency to the digital marketplace. CTIA thanks Chairman Smith and Representative Cohen for their leadership on the bill, which is a critical piece of what is necessary to make sure our tax system better reflects and supports the digital, online nature of today’s economy. We hope the full House will act soon to approve the Digital Goods bill.”
