2010 in Review: Wireless Works for the Environment

In this year alone, wireless technology has saved businesses millions of dollars by adopting eco-friendly wireless solutions like e-billing, wireless fleet monitoring and smart grid technologies. By using wireless technology and services, businesses are deploying more sustainable business practices while reducing their environmental footprints.

In April, we celebrated Earth Day’s 40th anniversary and talked about some of the ways the wireless industry has gone “green.” We are proud of our commitment to improve the design of wireless devices and packaging to be more environmentally friendly and to use network equipment that yields energy savings of up to 70 percent. These are just a few examples of how our members are creating a low-carbon economy.

And we keep doing more! By January 1, 2012, we have committed to supporting a “one-charger-fits-all” Universal Charger Solution (UCS) for many new wireless devices that would reduce energy consumption as well as consumer costs.

In 2011, you’ll see us continue to focus on the green initiatives with some great announcements so stay tuned!
